ASHER THE FARMER
Building community through food, farming, and education.

I am a farmer, cook, educator, food activist, and permaculture designer living in Newton, Massachusetts in the Boston area. My decade of work as an organic farmer has given me experience with plants, soil, weather patterns, and community supported agriculture. In addition to my own agriculture ventures, I offer services in farming, gardening, landscaping, brush clearing, organizing, and general cleaning at hourly rates. If you are looking for assistance on your project or property please reach out. Together we can grow healthier communities!

CREATING A HEALTHIER FOOD SYSTEM TOGETHER
My Journey
In 2016 I graduated from UMass Amherst with a degree in Hospitality business, a Certificate in Sustainable Food and Farming, and a commitment to changing the food system. I am proud to have worked on many organic farms in the Northeast both big and small, and have received invaluable mentorship throughout my career. I've found over my years of farming how important it is to honor soil health; to be a steward of the land rather than an exploiter of it's resources. In March 2021 I earned my Permaculture Design Certification through Sowing Solutions Permaculture, which allows me to design full spectrum regenerative landscapes from concept to install.
OUR LAND IS OUR FOOD IS OUR COMMUNITY
I view farming as a group effort - a team sport that involves every individual. In the local food system I seek to create, farmers and consumer are no longer separated; we are one team with the goal to enjoy the benefits of local nutrient dense food.

When we respect the land by harnessing it's natural resources, a symbiotic relationship can be created among soil, air, farmer, and consumer. Through no-till practices, organic mulches, permaculture design, and hand scale agriculture, we can grow nutrient dense and delicious food. There is something special about walking onto a farm and hearing birds, buzzing insects, and breathing clean air. I believe the answer to our broken food system is simple: small scale ecological market gardening.

GROWING WITH NATURE
COMMUNITY ENGAGED AGRICULTURE
As a farmer it is a joy to grow and harvest food for customers that are directly engaged in local agriculture. When the food miles are lessened and the farmscape opened to the public, the community can strengthen their connection with each other and the food we put in our bodies.

FARMING
OUR
FUTURE
As a young modern farmer, I am energized by the enthusiasm of the current local food movement. I am committed to practicing responsible agricultural technique that will give us abundant yields today, and for seasons to come. If you are looking for a consultant or food systems specialist to secure the future of your project, please reach out to collaborate. I also offer services in farming, gardening, landscaping, brush clearing, organizing, and cleaning at hourly rates.
